70th Primetime Emmy Awards

70th Primetime Emmy Awards

The crème de la crème of the small screen were in full force last night at the Microsoft Theatre Stage in Los Angeles for the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards. Some of the world’s most-loved television shows were spotlighted for the evening with favourites like HBO’s Game of Thrones returning with 22 nominations (and winning Best Drama) and our very own Trevor Noah pulling through with a nomination with the Daily Show for Outstanding Variety Talk Series. Despite losing to Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, we’re always proud of our comedy hero!

Streaming has become one of the biggest forms of entertainment so it’s no surprise that streaming service, Netflix had the most nominations with 112 overall, beating HBO for the first time in history. From Stranger Things and Black Mirror to Queer Eye and The Crown, Netflix had nearly all the different genres covered. The streaming service took home 23 awards last night, tied with HBO.

Hosted by Saturday Night Live’s The Weekend Update anchors, Colin Jost and Michael Che, the evening was filled with laughs and AN ENGAGEMENT PROPOSAL (!!!), all well saluting the television stars, writers and directors of the year.

One of our favourite parts of award season (besides the incredible talent being recognized) are the red carpet looks. Here are a few of the looks that we’ve loved this year.
