ALL ABOUT EYES: In light of the array of beautiful (yet daunting) eyeshadow palettes out there, we demystify the art of shadow-blending for perfectly diffused lids to achieve the latest eye make-up trends.
1. Shadow insurance
Give your shadow some grip by applying an eyeshadow primer to your entire lid before you start. Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer (R290) colour corrects the lids and guarantees all-day staying power.
Consider applying sooty and metallic shadows before you do the rest of your make-up to prevent fall-out
from ruining your look.
2. Power tools
Flawless shadow application is all about having the right brushes for the job. You can’t go wrong with a fluffy blending brush and a denser brush to lay down pigment before blending. Our picks? Lottie All Eyes On You Eye Shading Brush (R90) to pack shadow on the mobile lid and Real Techniques Bold Metals Oval Shadow Brush (R299.95) to blend, blend, blend.
3. Easy does it
Start by sweeping the lightest shadow you want to use all over the lid, focusing on the inner half and using the denser brush to really pack the pigment on. Add darker hues of the same shade family as you move towards the outer corners, diffusing harsh edges with the blending brush. We adore the fierce Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette (R850) for trendy amber-adorned eyes.
