Build a stylish summer wardrobe with the help of Thaeo Ngobeni, the creative director at Mr. Slimfit – and one of SA’s most stylish men.
The moderate temperatures of spring have given way to the glorious heat of summer. Style adjustments need to be made to all facets of your wardrobe and some pieces need to be added. Let’s get into it…
A light-wash denim is essential, but a pair of white jeans is also a wonderful alternative and goes well with other pieces in a range of colours. Add jean shorts to round off your summer denim inventory.
Chinos in khaki and beige pair excellently with bright summer shirts. Speaking of which…
I’ve developed an obsession with wool-and-silk blend golf T-shirts. They’re going to be a constant go-to in summer. Have a rotation that includes mustard, purple and shades of brown, especially the trendy tobacco. Plain T-shirts in brilliant white and light grey are summer staples as they provide no-fuss options when you want to look effortlessly cool.
Short-sleeved floral shirts will take you from day to night, but if you aren’t feeling the flowers, opt for a shirt with a subtle pattern such as polka dots. Finally, casual linen shirts, and navy-and-white striped (horizontal) shirts should round out your collection.
Excellence is in the details, so don’t skimp on accessories. If you have timeless, foundational sunglasses – aviators and wayfarer styles – then add a shape that’s on trend and suits the shape of your face.
I’ve enjoyed the flexibility canvas straps give me from a watch perspective. You can buy them separately in a range of colours and then match them to your outfit.
Finally, tie it all together with a fresh summer scent. Nothing kills a vibe like a fragrance that belongs in winter. Make sure you smell like the season feels.
